Georgia’s Vision for Conservation

A Message from Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue

As citizens of Georgia, we are blessed to live in a state with a wealth of natural resources from the coastal plains and barrier islands to the Piedmont’s pine forests to the North Georgia Mountains. However, as the drought confronting our state illustrates, Georgia’s natural resources are finite and precious. We must continue to preserve and manage these valuable resources by building on successful statewide planning efforts such as the State Energy Strategy and the Georgia Comprehensive State-wide Water Management Plan. By taking the necessary steps today, we can provide for our future. It is important that we do not just make temporary changes in the way we use our state’s natural resources but that we create a culture of conservation in Georgia where the stewardship of our environment becomes a way of life.

How we respond today to the challenges meeting our state will shape the Georgia of tomorrow. Each one of us has a valuable role to play in keeping the beauty of Georgia alive for this and future generations. Conserve Georgia will help instill in all Georgians an ethic of stewardship and conservation and our state’s programs can assist Georgians in creating a culture of conservation. Our conservation efforts not only ensure that Georgia’s natural resources are protected for future generations but also reduce our dependence on traditional energy sources, support our economy, and improve the environment. By working together we can all make a difference.

As Georgians, we need to exercise wisdom and prudence when it comes to using our state’s natural resources. The management of our resources, both short-term and long-term, is vital to the lives of all our state’s citizens. Most importantly, conservation needs to be part of our future because it is the right thing to do. Please join me in creating a culture of conservation and ensuring that the Georgia of today is preserved for the Georgia of tomorrow.

Sincerely,

sonny perdue
